About the Artist...

Back in 1982, during his collage days studying graphic design, Calen Darnel discovered an interest in capturing nature and all her glory, on film. What started out as an interest, grow to become a passion and then an obsession. Holidays and weekend trips were planned with photography in mind.

As his collection grew to over 11,000 images, people and businesses started asking to purchase prints or lease images for advertising and a business was born.

Today, Calen's primary focus is on fine-art photography and his unique collection of photomontage images, which have become his signature series. His spectacular canvas-mounted prints are often mistaken for oil paintings and are gracing the homes of an ever increasing number of serious art collectors. Calen lives with his wife Julie, in his native home town of Ladner, a small rural farming and fishing town located south of Vancouver, British Columbia.

From Nature's Palette

For two decades Calen Darnel has captured natures beauty on film giving him a recognizable style in stock, commercial, aerial and, more recently... fine art photography. His images have been featured in Beautiful BC Magazine, on CDs and CD covers, government posters, brochures and many other notable publications.

His ongoing mission is to capture and convey the beauty, power and delicateness of Nature. When composition, light and timing all come together in harmony, he views this as nothing short of a gift.

Calen's compositions are carefully and thoughtfully refined to result in imagery that is both balanced and pleasing to the eye, yet has visual impact. His images often have a subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, surreal look to them; those mounted on canvas have the look and feel of an oil or acrylic painting.

Calen's fine art prints are becoming increasingly popular, with many images now being sought after by serious, private collectors.
